![]() ![]() Taking place wholly outdoors, Tinkergarten aims to spark kids' natural wonder while helping them develop life skills and social skills. Tinkergarten is not just for preschoolers children are grouped with similar ages, and classes are led by trained parents and local community members. This parent-founded, national play-based program can be found in NYC parks all over the city (and the surrounding 'burbs): Prospect Park, Riverside, Astoria Park, Central Park, Forest Park, and many more. ![]() The school's child-led, inquiry-based program includes stories, music, movement, art, gardening, nature exploration, building with natural materials, puzzles, imaginative play, and cooking. Elements Preschool – Lower East SideĮlements Preschool's indoor classrooms are flanked by a huge backyard garden. Run around in the natural backyard at Elements Preschool. Admission is offered on a rolling basis, and the program operates on a school-year calendar with optional summer add-ons. In the play-based program, hands-on learning is encouraged. Kids in this mixed-age setting spend the majority of their days exploring the park's 538 acres. This forest school operates out of a home daycare setting on the edge of Forest Park. Kew Kids Forest School – Forest Park, Queens These forest school classes are held entirely outdoors regardless of the weather and consist of a gentle rhythm of imaginative play, singing, meaningful work, exploration, and a picnic of homemade bread, apples, and berry tea. There's also a dedicated 3 to 6-year-old afternoon class for the "older" ones this fall. Brooklyn Forest – Prospect Park, Brooklyn, and Central Parkīrooklyn Forest offers once-a-week classes in Prospect Park and Central Park for young children accompanied by their caregivers. Homemade snacks are on the menu at the Brooklyn Forest. Its Garden Sprouts class for children ages 3-5 and a Crafters class for kids 6-12 also meet weekly-rain or shine-and provide a hands-on introduction to planting and harvesting as children explore the garden, pick fresh produce, dig for worms, and learn about topics from pollination to composting. Young children and their adults can enroll in its Nature Explorers program and spend an hour-long session each week immersed in a different corner of the garden, exploring, singing, hearing stories, and crafting a take-home project. The NYBG's esteemed 60-year-old children's program offers a trio of programs for little nature loves. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate through this unique time.New York Botanical Garden – Bronx Park, the Bronx What, if any, protocols we put in place will be sent to all registered families and posted on our website by the end of August. Again, what guidelines and protocols we use will be determined by the best practices suggested by the medical/health experts. The touching of live animals and specimens may be limited or restricted as well. We may also provide additional classroom and restroom sanitization and single-use classroom supplies. For example, we may limit class sizes require face masks to be worn while indoors and in any other areas specified by the museum have a health check before entering class and/or have a one-way drop off/pick-up at the SRC, etc. But if conditions warrant, we may utilize some or all of the protocols and guidelines we used during the 20-21 academic year. ![]() Though we are hoping conditions will be such that we need minimal, if any, covid protocols. ![]() We will follow their suggestions as they apply to our situation and do our best to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff, and their families. Towards the end of summer, we will evaluate the current Covid-19 situation and what the CDC and other scientific organizations are recommending for best practices. However, if conditions change and any local, state, or federal mandates are implemented that would affect what we offer, we reserve the right to make any needed changes to our program offerings and/or class sizes.Īs for the preschool/homeschool protocols we will require when classes start – we can’t give exact details at this time. Accordingly, we are offering the full scope of our regular preschool and homeschool classes beginning this fall and have set up registration accordingly.
